Learn What The Homeowner Thought About Working With Us.
Joey Murray, a Dallas resident, shares his positive experience building a home in Roatan with Colins Development. After discovering Roatan on vacation, he and his family decided to build there despite initial concerns about construction in a foreign country. He specifically recommends the Colins brothers (Maickol and Guillermo) as the only builders he would trust on the island. Murray emphasizes how the process exceeded expectations, came in under budget and on time, and contrasts this with negative stories he's heard about other builders from fellow expats. He highlights the benefits of lower property taxes and insurance costs, as well as how Colins Development helped optimize the home's orientation to take advantage of sun and wind patterns.

The client’s vision was to create a beach house designed primarily for vacations and family gatherings—a place where they could disconnect, relax, and enjoy time on the island with friends and loved ones. They were looking for a home that could naturally adapt to the tropical climate, providing comfort through thoughtful design rather than relying heavily on mechanical systems. The program included four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with spaces designed to feel open, inviting, and connected to the outdoors.
The house was envisioned as a base for their island lifestyle—easy access to the water, days spent boating to the bay, and evenings shared with friends in a relaxed, welcoming environment. A key aspect of the design was maximizing the use of natural resources. The house is carefully oriented to capture optimal natural light throughout the day, while also taking full advantage of prevailing breezes. This passive design approach enhances comfort within the space while significantly reducing the need for artificial lighting and mechanical cooling.
As a result, the project not only improves the living experience but also helps reduce energy consumption and long-term operational costs for the client.
Project: Hummingbird Casitas

A retired couple shares their positive experience working with the Colins Development team in Roatan. After deciding to move somewhere warm for retirement, they purchased land in Roatan and needed to build their own home due to odd layouts in existing properties. The customer recounts a challenging pool construction project where the Collins team had only a couple of weeks between rentals to complete the work. Despite facing 21.3 inches of rain in two days, the crew worked under tarps to stay on schedule and delivered everything on time with no budget surprises. The final house project was delivered ahead of time and on-budget. The customer praises the team's reliability, respectfulness, punctuality, cleanliness, and their tendency to under promise and over deliver.

This client had previously had a “less than acceptable” experience with other builders on the island. In fact, we were the fourth builder they worked with. The first project they gave us was to create a pool and deck area in a very tight timeline.
Upon successful completion of that project, we were awarded the contract to build their home.
They knew exactly what they wanted their house to be, and we worked very closely with them to provide exactly what they envisioned. The house was finished ahead of schedule and on budget.
The final compound consists of two rental casitas, a bodega (workshop), a pool with a deck area, and their home. The project is located beachfront in the Gibson Bight/Sandy Bay area of Roatan.
Project: No Mas Pantalones

Melissa and Chuck Massie share their experience building two houses in Roatan with Colins Development. Initially concerned about language barriers and the complexity of the project, they nearly gave up after meeting with other builders. However, their experience changed completely when they met Maickol and Guillermo from Colins Development, who immediately understood their vision and provided professional guidance on positioning the houses for optimal breeze and sun exposure. The entire process was conducted via video calls, and both houses were delivered ahead of schedule. The couple emphasizes the integrity, honesty, and professionalism of Colins Development, describing them as friends and the most honest business experience they've had.

After we met with several local builders, we went back to our rental place, got in the pool, and we thought, maybe we just need to sell our land to buy a condo instead. This is going to be too hard.
The day after next, we met with Maickol and Guillermo, and immediately, it was different. We felt confident. We felt good about this project.
They immediately started walking around the land, both of them saying, okay, you're gonna wanna position it this way to get the breeze, to get the sun. It's like they could already envision exactly what we meant right off the bat. We both instantly knew. Yes. These were OUR GUYS! So, I mean, after that, the build became very easy, and we did it all via video from the US.

When we first met our clients, they had a clear purpose for their home, but not yet a defined vision of how it would look or what style it would follow. Their main goal was to create a comfortable and functional home for their family.
As a family of five, they wanted a space where they could unwind after work and where their children could feel safe, comfortable, and free to enjoy their everyday lives. Our approach was to design a home that truly adapts to their lifestyle and supports their family dynamics.
We incorporated open spaces that allow visual connection throughout the house, giving the parents the ability to stay aware of their children while they play, both inside and outside. This created a sense of openness, safety, and connection within the home.
The final design reflects a modern tropical style—embracing natural light, ventilation, and a strong relationship with the surrounding environment.
One of the most valuable aspects of this project was the process itself. Since the clients were on the island during construction, communication was smooth and collaborative, making the entire experience enjoyable. In the end, they were extremely happy with the final result, which is always our ultimate goal.

The main challenge of this project was to integrate multiple functions into a single building while maintaining a clear sense of independence between each space. Our clients envisioned a main residence, two separate condos, and a shared common or creative area—all within one cohesive structure.
At the same time, a key requirement was that every space should enjoy its own view of the ocean. This condition became a central driver in the design, shaping the layout, orientation, and overall composition of the building.
Currently, the project is under construction, and we are in the early stages of development. At this phase, close supervision is essential to ensure that everything is executed according to the design and that the quality meets our standards.
Being actively involved on-site allows us to maintain control over every detail and ensure the project progresses smoothly from concept to reality.

This 3884 sqft project is located on the island's West side, in the Lawson Rock community.
Our client had a clear vision of their dream project, but they faced a significant challenge in finding a partner who could refine and align this vision with the lot they had purchased.
Our first step was to create rough sketches, which were refined into detailed drawings, which became architectural blueprints.
We took care of everything for them, from acquiring the necessary permits to sourcing all the fixtures, thus transforming their vision into a turnkey reality.

This seven month project focuses on two apartments located in the West End area, which belong to two passionate world travelers who decided to invest in the paradise of Roatan.
They asked us to help them design and build two apartments that would have a view and most-importantly, succeed in the very competitive rental market.
Our challenge in this project was to guide our clients to get the best possible advantage of the view while maximizing land space and planning the orientation of the building for better airflow to minimize the use of expensive electricity required to run air conditioning.

Jacy and Mark feared building their cabins without being on the island of Roatan during construction. They were nervous about trusting us to complete everything from permits to fixtures, tiles, etc.
The goal: Two rectangular twin cabins, set on concrete columns that negotiate the topography, and a green tropical cabin for renting purposes were intended by the Project owner.
We completed the turn-key project in just six months.
The typological and architectural choices were dictated by the building site. A forest Edge at the back of the site, with two beautiful wooden cabins overlooking the ocean.

Several builders walked away from this project based on the steep hillside of the lot and the client’s expectations for the completed home. We saw an opportunity to create something special and loved the challenge this project represented.
Our primary goal was to ensure we could get a solid footing upon which to build. Once we were absolutely confident we could support the finished project, we were now faced with meeting the client’s very high expectations for the finished home.
We exceeded his expectations by providing high-end finishes inside and out.
Time to completion was five months.
